FEATURE TRANSITIONS' 2013 U.S. LAB OF THE YEAR 16 march 2014 totallyoptical.com Simple Business-Building Strategies BY BRIAN CONLEY Optical Prescription Lab, a two-time U.S. Transitions Lab of the Year winner, shares tactics on how it achieved success in growing their business. I OFTEN THINK that building and growing a business is similar to building a home. When you're constructing your dream house, you wouldn't dare skimp on choosing the best, high-quality materials to start your foundation. Not only do you need the best materials, but you should also invest in hiring expert builders, connecting with your community— and be willing to make some upgrades along the way. The same applies to when you start a com- pany or when it's time to create a yearly business plan. I'm sure that most business owners know that success certainly doesn't happen overnight, but at Optical Prescription Lab (OPL), one crucial piece of our business-build- ing success was our decision to partner with Transitions Optical, Inc. early on. Transitions Optical has been a huge part of our team for more than 18 years and they are without a doubt a major support beam for our business. I am very proud we were recently named Transitions' 2013 U.S. Lab of the Year during Transitions Academy in January. The Lab of the Year honor is very meaningful to us at OPL because it serves as a huge testament to our working relationship with Transitions and the great results we've been able to achieve together. From being in business many years, we've learned that there are certain products that we can depend on and know that they are good options for our customers and their patients. For example, when it comes to photochromics, Transitions is the only brand we offer. We know that not everyone can say "We only offer Transitions ® lenses," but it's something that we take pride in. We've done our homework and only provide the products that have proven patient satisfaction so our customers can continue to deliver the best for their patients. Although most patients spend a Transitions' Brian Hauser, general manager, U.S. and Canada, congratulates Sherry Pugh, co-owner and vice president, Optical Prescription Lab. We recommend that every customer should begin by educat- ing their patients on what the pillars of a good eyeglass prescription are at every step of the patient's visit.
