The new facility, which is expected to open in November, will occupy nearly 80,000 sq.ft. and employ 650. 2014 OFFICERS FOR THE VISION COUNCIL The Vision Council Executive Summit in North Miami January 22-24 of- fcially inducted its 2014 offcers and board of directors. Ranaan Naftalovich of Shamir Insight, Inc. will serve a second one-year term as chair of the board. Also inducted for a second term were Marty Bassett of Walman Optical, vice chair, Secretary/Treasurer Dick Russo, recently retired from Saflo USA, and Jamie Shyer of Zyloware Eyewear as Immediate Past Chair. Elected as directors-at-large were Joe Donahoe of Carl Zeiss Vision, Inc. (Lens Divi- sion), Michael Suliteanu of WestGroupe (Eyewear & Accessories Division), and Steve Tulba of Mondottica (Eyewear & Accessories division). ESSILOR CONTINUES ITS PARTNERSHIP STREAK Essilor International has acquired majority interests in two prescription labs in the U.S.— RD Cherry Optical, Inc., Melvindale, MI, owned by Richard Cherry, and Plunkett Optical, Fort Smith, AR. In Canada, it has signed partnership agreements with Riverside Optical, a group of prescription labs based in Quebec and Ontario, and with two labs in Ontario: Benson Edwards Optical Lab, Kitchener, and CPS 360 Optical Lab, London. Essilor also signed a partnership agreement with Comprol, a prescription lab in Brazil. In other news, Essilor Instruments USA is combining its two U.S. divisions, Essilor Instruments USA and Stereo Optical in its Chicago, IL facilities. Essilor Instruments will move from Germantown, WI this quarter. IDD'S OUTSTANDING LAB WINNERS Essilor of America, Inc.'s Independent Distributor Division (IDD) named its 2013 Annual Laboratory winners at Essilor's National Sales Meeting. Sepanek joined SPY in May 2011. After 42 years of service, DICK RUSSO, executive vice president of SAFILO USA has retired. GLENN RUSK who led Saflo's Canadian business has become the new commercial senior vice president of SAFILO NORTH AMERICA. QSPEX TECHNOLOGIES, INC. has appointed BRETT CRAIG as president and CEO. Dr. EVAN MELROSE, managing director at Spindletop Capital, is the new CHAIR. Dick Russo Jim Sepanek Brett Craig Glenn Rusk PEOPLE IN THE NEWS ZEISS MAKES CONSUMERS AWARE OF DIGITAL EYESTRAIN Carl Zeiss Vision, Inc. has released an infographic to the mainstream media. The infographic explains the key symptoms and causes of digital eyestrain and aims to heighten consumer awareness about its effects.
