july 2015 13 opticallabproducts.com BUSINESS STRATEGY FEATURE P.O.G. Labs, adds: "The frames in these bundles represent a good mix of zyl and metals, women's and men's, and even some children's. We have a large array of brands: Titane, Nikon, Nicole Scott, Genesis, Spirits, Marc O'Polo, Fratelli Lozza, Indigo, Valente, and many others." Fontana continues, "Customers can choose to buy frames in a bundle of 100 or as individual frames for a fat rate. There are even some sunglasses in the mix, occasionally." To keep customers happy, P.O.G. Labs keeps shipping rates on its bundle specials low, allowing its customers to buy name-brand frames at competitive prices and still make a good proft. ONE-STOP OPTICAL SHOP P.O.G. Labs also boosts revenue by considering itself a one-stop optical shop. Its website and online store (poglabs.com) has won awards and praise for consistently being one of the top optical laboratory websites. The company even offers market- ing support to its customers for an additional fee. Through this service, the P.O.G. Labs Marketing Team can help customers with promotional materials and ideas in several ways, including fyer design, business cards, brochures, table tent displays, seasonal sales tips for the offce or lab, copy work, print work, media support, promos, and general business identity support. Aside from eyewear and sun- wear, P.O.G. Labs also sells safety frames, customizable sports goggles (through a partnership with Hilco), and in-house sports shooting glasses (available in several different interchangeable lenses and colors), as well as products and supplies from DAC Vision, On Guard, 3M, Armour-x, Titmus, and Hudson Optical. Among P.O.G. Labs' top-selling add-ons are backside coatings, cleaning cloths, edging pads, overcoat remover, 3-oz. bottles of BPI Tint, blocking tape, polish and polishing pads, contact lenses, cases, machine replacement parts, coating systems, consumables, and progressive identifer books. A PRODUCTIVE PARTNERSHIP P.O.G. Labs partnered with Modern Optical International in September 2001 to distribute Modern Optical's eyewear products. Both companies have beneftted from the revenue this union has generated and customers have been very pleased with the selection, quality, unique- ness, and price points of Modern Optical's frames, which are available in metal and zyl for women, men, and children. P.O.G. Labs' goal is to be everthing to everyone—a one-stop optical shop conducting business in a straightforward and transparent way. Its customers are the main priority, as their proft is P.O.G. Labs' proft, and vice versa. By offering a wide variety of products beyond lens surfacing and by staying on the cutting edge of what is current and upcoming in the optical world, P.O.G. Labs runs a successful business while providing its customers with the very latest and best in lens, frame, and coating options. Meghan Kalvig is Communications Director at Precision Optical Group, Inc. in Creston, IA. P.O.G. Labs' partnership with Modern Optical has been proftable for both companies. P.O.G. Labs has its own line of proprietary lenses and coatings to differentiate itself from the competition. An important part of P.O.G. Labs' business strategy is its website and online store.
