NEW FOR THE LAB SEIKO'S POLARTHIN MAKES ITS DEBUT Seiko Optical Products of America, Inc. has introduced PolarThin 1.67 which the company says is the thinnest and lightest polarized sunwear available. "The 1.67 Semi-Finished PolarThin features Precise Film Positioning, a proprietary process where the flm is located 0.4mm from surface center to edge," explains Michael Rybacki, senior vice president of sales and marketing. "The polarizing flm is placed closer to the surface of the blank, resulting in lightweight and fashionable lenses that can be surfaced as thin as 1.3mm center thickness, compared to other manufacturers' 1.8mm to 2.0mm center thickness." PolarThin 1.67 is available in gray and brown polarized flm colors. It features a high-index double hardcoat primer which can provide increased impact resistance and reduce fringe interference. Seiko is offering the PolarThin in 11 base curves including a 0.50B. This curvature is good for free-form designs as well as conventional single vision. Blanks are made with high-index MR-10 resin which is less sensitive to heat and does not readily contract or expand—factors that can lead to warping and coating deterioration. Labs has created a Zero Glare DES plus UV anti-refective (AR) coating to protect against eye strain caused by digital devices. Backlit digital devices can cause visual discomfort and damage to the retina. Using P.O.G.'s coating the front of the lens can provide reduced intensity light from LED technologies and environmental light. The back can include the Zero Glare DES plus UV, reducing harmful blue light and UV light to less than 1%. For more information, contact P.O.G. Labs at 800-497-9239 or poglabs.com. A SAFE LENS CLEANER ALTERNATIVE Ultra Optics has released an "All Purpose Lens Cleaner" to effectively clean all lens materials. It is formulated to replace isopropyl alcohol during pre-coating treatment before backside spin coating. It can quickly degrease, clean, and shine any plastic or glass lens, coated or uncoated. The lens cleaner has an anti-streak property allowing for easy cleaning, and an anti-static property to repel dust so lenses can stay cleaner longer. The cleaner could be used in any lab's coating department or lens inspection station because it is safe on all lens materials and is non-hazardous. For more information, contact Ultra Optics at 800-365-9993 or ultraoptics.com. totallyoptical.com RUNDOWN VERSATILE LENS FROM VISION-EASE Vision-Ease Lens has launched Advanta™, a spherical fnished single vision polycarbonate lens. Specifc features of the Advanta include fatter front curves to better ft today's frames, and ample edge thickness on low minus and plus powers to accommodate rimless and drill mount frames. Advanta lenses are protected by Vision-Ease's Continua® thermal-cured hardcoating. For more information, contact Vision-Ease Lens at 800-328-3449 or vision-ease.com. PRE-TINTED LENS BLANKS CAN HELP Vision Dynamics has expanded its line of permaTINT™ to include pretinted polycarbonate semi-fnished single vision (SFSV) lens blanks in 2-, 4-, 6-, and 8- base. These lens blanks integrate into conventional and digital surfacing lines. "Tinting polycarbonate lens blanks has always been a diffcult process for optical labs," says John Dippold, vice president of operations. "With permaTINT, we eliminate the production issues associated with tinting in a traditional dye tank. Labs experience a reduction in overall breakage and improved service time by not losing the lens in the fnal step of the production process." permaTINT is available in seven standard color options and custom color matching services are available. For more information, contact Vision Dynamics at 888-900-5503 or visdynlab.com. A PRECISE POLISH FROM DAC DAC Vision has introduced DigitALL™, a polish for all lens materials on all digital and traditional equipment. DigiALL provides clarity, less haze, and improved surfaces for anti-refective (AR) coating results, the company says. It is easy to mix, stays in suspension, and easily cleans off all lens substrates and equipment. For more information, contact DAC Vision at 800-800-1550 or dacvision.com. BLOCKING THE SUN WITH VSP'S PHOTOCHROMIC LENS VSP Optics Group has introduced the sunsync™ photochromic lens for every lifestyle.
