RUNDOWN NEW FOR THE LAB PSI INTRODUCES ITS LARGEST CENTRAL SLURRY SYSTEM Practical Systems, Inc. (PSI) has launched the 915 Central Slurry System, the largest of the three Central Slurry Systems the company offers for digital and conventional lens polishers. PSI's other systems are the 913 with an 11-gal. tank and the 911 which is used in small labs and has a 5-gal. capacity. This 23-gal. capacity slurry system is designed to consolidate slurry for digital processing. It reduces by half the number of chillers and slurry tanks needed. Designed with two pumps and a two-flter system, it can handle high volumes of polish. When used with a PSI 985 chiller, it maintains polish at the optimum temperature for superior lens surface quality. The 915 comes with two pumps that have a fow rate of 56 gal. a minute each. It includes two 300-micron flters to remove contaminants from the polishing compound to extend polish life. Like other PSI Central Slurry Systems, the 915 offers a drain valve and cooling coil that quickly disconnect to facilitate emptying and cleaning the unit as well as an easy-to-read temperature gauge for monitoring the slurry. A SUPER FILM PAD FROM OPTISOURCE Optisource International has developed a second-generation anti-slip flm disc for hydrophobic coatings. The Super IFP is a clear, thin flm pad that has a specially formulated high-tack adhesive designed to grip to the smoothest, slickest, most oil-resistant surfaces, while its topside is designed to have any standard blocking pad adhere to it. After edging, the Super IFP is easily removed and leaves no residue on the lens. Optisource introduced the original IFP over eight years ago. "Today's super hydro-oleophobic lenses are more advanced than just six months ago," says Daryl Squicciarini, president of Optisource. "Edging pads have been challenged to keep up with these ever-changing coating demands. Our Super IFP Pad eliminates slippage while edging these lenses and provides a cost-effective solution." Due to its high strength adhesive, Super IFP is only recommended for use on superhydrophobic and oleophobic rated coatings. A POLISHER FOR FREE-FORM LENSES Coburn Technologies, Inc. has launched the Digi-Sheen PRO Digital Polishing Solution which has been specifcally engineered for conventional and digital lens polishing. The company says the polish can provide an excellent surface fnish on all lenses requiring backside hardcoat and/or AR application. The new polish includes: formulation for use in both digital and conventional polishers; a non-corrosive formula for a lower impact on the equipment; and a good removal rate on all lens materials for improved clarity. It can be used with most digital soft tool laps including Coburn's new HyperFlex ENDURO and CLARITY tools. "Customers have asked for a more dependable solution for digital free-form polishing and we have worked to meet and hopefully surpass that need," says Dan Clarke, product development manager for Coburn's Lab Works division.
